The Joint Security Area (JSA) or "Truce Village" was previously a village called Panmunjom and created in 1953 within the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) after cessation of hostilities for the Korean War. It now serves as a border outpost and meeting point for negotiations, and has been the site of numerous events and incidents.
