Anne Frank House
This 17th-century canal house was the hiding location of Jewish wartime diarist Anne Frank, her family, and four others from Nazi persecution. She did not survive the war but her diary was published in 1947. The house itself has been preserved and is now a writer's house and biographical museum dedicated in her honour.
