The Alamo
This historic Spanish mission and fortress compound, built in 1718 by Roman Catholic missionaries, was the site of the famous Battle of the Alamo in 1836, a pivotal event of the Texas Revolution. Today the Alamo is a museum and famous tourist attraction in the heart of San Antonio.
