Regata Storica

This annual event has been practiced for thousands of years, whereby scores of typically 16th century-style boats with gondoliers in period costume carry the highest ranking Venetian officials up the Grand Canal in a brightly coloured parade. This is followed by a series of racing events, involving numerous small sporting gondolas speeding down the main waterway to the finishing line.
