This "Thousand Island Lake" or "Xin'anjiang Reservoir" is a man-made, freshwater lake dotted with 1,078 large islands and a few thousand smaller ones. The lake was created in 1959 for the Xin'an River Dam project and also contains the submerged ancient city of Shi Cheng. The Nongfu Spring brand of mineral water and Kaluga Queen's harvested sturgeon caviar is produced from this lake, while its beauty makes it a popular tourist attraction.
