Parthenon
This former temple was built in 438 BC as a tribute to the goddess Athena, while suffering damage by invading Ottomans in 1687. It is now considered the most important surviving building of Classical Greece, and an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece, Athenian democracy and Western civilization.
