Ali & Nino Statue
This twin 8 meter (26 foot) tall steel sculpture by Georgian sculptor Tamara Kvesitadze features a Muslim Azerbaijani boy, Ali, and a Georgian Christian princess, Nino, from a famous 1937 Romeo & Juliet-esque novel by Azerbaijani author Kurban Said. The two lovers are separated by the Soviet invasion in 1921, and tragically ends with Ali being killed in the war. Now this majestic monument reunites the lovers, who every evening are brought together by their movable platforms to join in a tender kiss and embrace.
