A popular winter activity especially in Scandinavian and Eastern European countries, ice swimming (or winter swimming) involves swimming (or even a quick dip) in an unheated body of water below 5 °C (41 °F) and just above freezing. Fans of this extreme sport cite its health benefits such as improved body circulation and strengthening the immune system. However, it is not recommended for children, the elderly, and those with health problems.

You may recall childhood books discussing the Dead Sea (basically it’s so salty you stay afloat) but what you may not know is of the lone tree on a tiny salt formation which you can swim to. Beware though, swimming in a heavy salt lake is not an easy feat!
